As a business, backing up your data is one of the most important things you should be doing.
However, there are a number of different ways to do this and not all will be applicable. Read on for a few of ways, or get in touch with our team to discuss it in more detail. To start us off, our sister company SimplyBroadband currently offers an unlimited backup service.
This program may be installed on any computer (PCs, Macs and even servers) in your business and it will work unobtrusively in the background ensuring that all your important files and documents are securely backed up online, giving you peace of mind and total control. However if you have a server or your files are shared from different PCs you’re going to require something slightly different.
SimplyAnywhere is another product from Simply Backup that allows access to the same files from multiple machines without duplicating copies. Using a cloud storage drive that appears in This PC or Computer your files will appear the same as they would on a memory stick, as long as you’ve got an internet connection, you will always have access to the very latest versions of those files.
NETWORK ATTACHED STORAGE
As an alternative to additional software – you can always use the built in backup program that comes with all versions of Windows (including Windows Server!), this can be configured to save backups to a local hard drive at regular set intervals. “Network attached storage”, or a NAS, is exactly what it sounds like, storage connected directly to your network for all of your PCs to save their backups too. This can however have it’s limitations. For instance, if something were to happen to your building (such as fire, flood) your data may be lost. Some ransomware infections would also be capable of infecting and encrypting this storage space too.
Managed online backup
This is one of our add-ons (or Managed Services) for our Business Support customers with the idea being to remove any requirements on your staff to backup their own computers. Our system can manage which files and folders need to be backed up and can schedule them whenever needed. The system has file, volume and application level recovery and is fully supported on Virtual Machines. Uploads and downloads can also be “throttled” to make sure your staff can still use the internet if your connection is slow. We can also offer to archive one backup of a machine per month for as long as you want or need us to.
The ideal situation is what we refer to as an “offsite/onsite backup”. This is where you would have a local backup and an online backup solution, leaving you with at least 3 copies of every file and making the chances of actually loosing data impossible.
